Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Double XP Event Is Live, New Gunfight Variant Added

Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare looks set to kick off on February 11, with a recent teaser trailer confirming the return of a fan-favorite character. Before then, however, Infinity Ward has released another playlist update that’s now live on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, alongside a double XP event.

With the end of Season 1 looming, you can make some extra progress on your battle pass from now until February 11. Gains on XP, weapon XP, and tiers are all doubled for the next week.

Gunfight has proved to be a hugely popular new game mode in Modern Warfare, and the latest playlist update introduces another variant of the hectic 2v2 mode. Face Off Grind combines Gunfight with the classic multiplayer mode Grind, which itself is a mixture between Kill Confirmed and Hardpoint. “This mash-up of play styles gives an intense fast-paced feel to the close-quarters design of the Gunfight arena,” reads the official description.

Elsewhere, fan-favorites Shoot House 24/7 and Shipment 24/7 are both available at the same time for the first time ever. There’s also a Hardcore playlist called Shoot the Ship that combines both Shoot House and Shipment, as well as Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Headquarters being added to the 10v10 Hardcore Moshpit. Kill Confirmed and Headquarters are now available in the regular 10v10 Moshpit, too.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Teases The Return Of Ghost

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has confirmed the return of a fan-favorite character. A brief teaser hints at the return of Lt. Simon “Ghost” Riley, scheduled to drop on February 11, when season two is likely to begin.

The teaser on Twitter shows someone logging into view encrypted files from Captain Price, ending with a brief view of Ghost’s reflection in the laptop screen. The files themselves may hint at what to expect on the release date, as it teases “updated weapons system/ordinance” and “new team operators” for support. All of this is said to be happening at the location “Grid X-Ray Delta Yankee 4.”

Aside from those clues, the teaser doesn’t give any more details. We can probably expect Ghost to join as a multiplayer character, or a new Spec Ops mission featuring the character.

The inclusion of Ghost doesn’t come as much surprise. He’s been one of the most popular Call of Duty characters since his debut in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, and Infinity Ward has been hinting at a return. Modern Warfare 2019 was something of a soft reboot, reintroducing characters like Captain Price in a new, updated context. We will have to see how Infinity Ward updates the enigmatic Ghost, if at all.

This Modern Warfare is also being treated as a live game, with regular updates adding new battle pass rewards, maps, playlists, and other features. The latest update added Shipment as the 24/7 map, and tweaked several weapons.
