NEW MAP: HEREFORD BASE REWORK

Hereford Base is getting a makeover. The aim of this rework is to make serious adjustments to the map to address previously encountered gameplay issues, and to raise the standards of what’s expected for competitive play. Overall, the map will still feel familiar, but this new Hereford Base contains many twists and should be treated as a new map.

The current map as we know it was the first to be prototyped for Rainbow Six Siege, so it only makes sense for this map to be the first rework. Rarely does a Dev Team get to revamp an existing map, let alone a location as iconic as Hereford. Thanks to your continued support and feedback, the Dev Team collected a good amount of data to make the required fixes, pushing Hereford Base to the next level.

Players can expect a new layout and the map as a whole will be bigger, meaning that each floor will have a larger surface area. Level Designers have also added new stairs to improve movement between each floor, increasing the viability of rotations. However, the new Hereford Base will still retain its “soul,” making multiple nods to the old base. Level Artists also took this opportunity to update the map’s visual identity and color palette, giving each floor more personality.

For the Level Designers, revisiting this map was a rare treat. Rainbow Six Siege has been running live for over two years. During this time, the level design team has matured and fine-tuned its knowledge of the game, and now has the chance to apply this knowledge to the Hereford Base map. Despite the frequent rain over Hereford Base, the Dev Team has a sunny and positive outlook on what’s to come.

Again, none of this would be possible without the community’s feedback. Thank you for all your support.

Find out all about Hereford’s full treatment by visiting our Rainbow Six Twitch Channel [www.twitch.tv] on August 17-19th during the first ever Six Major in Paris.

Map Rework Philosophy

In a game like Rainbow Six Siege, ensuring that all maps are as competitive as possible is crucial. As part of that effort, we have learned a lot about how our maps are played, and what goes into making all of the Bomb Site locations viable options. For some maps, this can be done with adding and removing a few walls, and making minor tweaks to the flow of the map. For others, it will require extensive overhauls to the core layout of the map, which is where our Map Reworks come in. The goal of these reworks is to make a map more player-friendly at all skill levels, but also ensure that they are as balanced as possible. As previously announced, the first map receiving a rework will arrive in Year 3 Season 3.

With the Map Rework system, the level design team heavily alters the landscape to improve map flow. The overall goal of this process is to create more feasible Defender site choices. Our hopes are not to remove the most favorable selections, but to make other choices more practical, leading to a fresh experience. Additionally, changes to the layout of the map will open up better possibilities for Defenders to move around the map, as well as for Attackers when they are assaulting the objective. For example, ensuring that players have rotation opportunities and are not funneling through a single choke point to access a portion of the map is a part of reimagining the interior layout of a map.

The theme, or visual identity, of a map is also one of the areas that may be fine-tuned. This is where the art team will use their skills to make changes that improve the art direction. This is not limited to touching up on graphical fidelity of certain aspects of the map – the team may choose to revamp the feel, or setting, for where this map exists. We believe that this is an important step in making the maps more visually pleasing.

Maps that have competitive potential, but lack in this area, will be the leading candidates for the rework process. When maps suffer from imbalanced Bomb Sites, difficult rotation options, or spawn points that are problematic, they will either be reworked (Hereford Base), or removed from Ranked/Professional play (Tower). It is important to note that a map being removed from a playlist does not guarantee it will go through a rework or buff. This will allow the team to reevaluate the layout and make the necessary changes to improve the player experience.

To find out further details about map reworks and the incoming Hereford Base in Season 3, be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, on the forums[forums.ubi.com], and on our subreddit.

Y3S3: OPERATION GRIM SKY

These two Operators may associate with two different CTUs, but they are both joining Rainbow’s Urban Tactical Response Team, codenamed Grim Sky (or GSUTR).

The first Operator is a Defender from Great Britain. She’s a tough police officer who’s an expert on mob behavior and snatch-squad tactics. She knows she belongs on the front line and she won’t tolerate any nonsense.

The second Operator is an American Attacker, a specialist with a remarkably sharp mind when it comes to tactical operations. He has seen the worst in Kabul. Despite it all, he fell in love with the city. Legendary for his surgical precision, he remains an enigma within Rainbow Six.

We’re also introducing our first map rework. The map in question: Hereford Base. Despite the high chance of rain at this iconic training facility, we’re renovating the place and making many adjustments to raise the bar for competitive play.

A few gameplay enhancements are also making their way into Operation Grim Sky. Following a lengthy test phase, we’re bringing forth much-anticipated modifications to address the weapon sights misalignment. But that’s not all! In our constant pursuit to improve the game and the player experience, an adjustment with the Operator Idle Pick as well as dynamic resolution scaling for consoles are also on their way. Make sure to play on our test server and submit your feedback on R6 Fix.

Visit our Rainbow Six Twitch Channel [www.twitch.tv] on August 17-19th for the full reveal of Operation Grim Sky during the first ever Six Major in Paris.

ANTI-CHEAT UPDATE

On June 7th, we provided you with a recap of our next steps[rainbow6.ubisoft.com] regarding Anti-Cheat. We wanted to take a moment to update you on our progress on the various topics covered in the original message.

On Monday, a vulnerability used by a large number of cheat creators was patched, and is rendering a large number of cheats defunct. We also deployed a fix to prevent cheaters from planting the Defuser anywhere on the map.

This week, we suspended approximately 1300 players that we determined to have been boosted by cheaters. These players were suspended for 15 days, which many in the community feel is not harsh enough. They will also not benefit from their illicit activities come the end of the Season. We are currently assessing how we will be delivering this from a technical side, but all players sanctioned for this will have their rank and rewards removed prior to the launch of Season 3. We want to stress that we do not view the sanctioning of boosted players as a solution to the issue. It was a stop-gap while we work on the solution, which is adjusting MMR gains/losses for all players in a match with a cheater.

On the topic of adjusting MMR gains/losses for matches with cheaters, we are finalizing the design next week. Once that is complete, we will meet to determine workload, personnel, and deadlines. We will then have a better idea of the timeline for this feature going live.

We are continuing to make progress on the Two Step Verification requirement for Ranked. As of right now, our plans are to have this implemented during Season 3. This will be done in a patch that will occur within the Season, and is not tied to the launch of Season 3. As mentioned previously, we will have more detailed information once it is available.

We are interested in hearing your thoughts, and welcome your feedback on the topics mentioned above. Please let us know what you think on Twitter, Facebook, the forums[forums.ubi.com], and our subreddit.

SPECIAL OPERATION 2: TU15 PATCH NOTES

On July 24th, our second update of Year 2 will be released: Special Operation 2. This update will be available on PC, PlayStation®4, and Xbox One. The size of the patch will be 6GB on Steam, 18GB on Uplay and up to 18GB on consoles depending on your version. Please note that you will need to restart and update your platform to be able to play online.

FREE MISSION: OPERATION ARCHANGEL

Join Twitch on a mission to track down missing Operative in the Wildlands. Who is this Operative? Why are they here? Head over to Caimanes to launch Operation Revenge and find out. Completing Operation Revenge will reward players with Caveira Gloves, which include Caveira’s iconic CQC move, unlocking the position of all enemies within the vicinity in our Campaign Mode.

AI TEAMMATE TOGGLE ON/OFF

You can now play all of our PVE Campaigns entirely solo, with no AI Teammates. Simply toggle them off in the game menu for a true, lone wolf experience. Be careful however, as this mode means that each down is counted as a death since there is no one to revive you.

GHOST MODE

Ghost Mode is a new permadeath PVE game mode for those really looking for a challenge. This new, free mode will be accessible through the main menu and can be played in both solo and co-op, and at any difficulty setting. In Ghost Mode you’ll only have one primary weapon to accompany your pistol and you’ll need to really think about when to reload, since the remaining bullets in your clip will be lost. Choose your weapons carefully since they can only be swapped out at ammo boxes. And to up the realism, we’ve also added friendly fire.

The realism and challenge of Ghost Mode will not be without its rewards, however. We will be adding milestones you can reach in this mode that will bring Prestige Credits among other rewards. Stay tuned for more intel on the well-deserved rewards this new challenge will bring.

On July 24th, Year 2 Pass holders will have one week early access to Ghost Mode.

CHARACTER / AI CUSTOMISATION

You will now be able to change the face and gender of your character and AI Teammates at any time.

PROXIMITY MINES

Proximity Mines are now available in both PVE and PVP.

SOCIAL ITEMS

Things just got a lot more fun. We’ve added a new feature called "Social Items", which consists of 3 new item categories: Emotes, Voice Lines and Victory Poses, allowing you to further personalize your Ghost Recon Wildlands experience. These items are unlocked through Battle Crates and equipped via a new Social Page.

Social Wheel
In addition to the Comms Wheel, we now have the Social Wheel, allowing you to choose up to 5 Emotes and 5 Voice Lines to trigger. You can toggle between the Order Wheel and Social Wheel to access your Emotes.

Emotes
Emotes are character animations that can be triggered at any time, such as Face Palm, Lock and Load, and Air Guitar, just to name a few. A maximum of 5 Emotes can be equipped in the Social Wheel at one time.

Voice lines
Voice Lines are sound barks that your character says that can be heard only by your teammates or co-players. From tactical to banter, a maximum of 5 Voice Lines can be equipped in the Social Wheel at one time. So ‘Watch your flank, Hero!’.

Victory poses
Victory poses are stances your character makes in the victory screen at the end of a Ghost War match, which all players can see. These are triggered automatically and only one can be equipped at a time.

OBSERVER MODE

A player can now join a custom lobby in a dedicated slot and act as an observer of the match. They will have specific tools at hand that make the match more spectator-friendly, being able to see a player’s location, loadout, deployed items, and follow their point of view. Additionally, observers have access to a free-roam camera, allowing you to roam the battle field. A great way to watch matches, this is also a great tool for players who want to watch and organize tournaments!

NEW CLASSES: SURGEON AND TOXIC

Nodding reference to two veteran Rainbow Six Operators, Doc and Smoke, two new Classes have come to the Wildlands: get ready for Surgeon and Toxic.

Surgeon

Surgeon is an Assault class that comes equipped with the famous MPD-0 Stim Pistol. This lets him heal and even revive downed team members by shooting them with it. It has 5 charges and a cooldown, but it’s a strong ability that lets him turn the tides of battle and keep his team in fighting shape for long periods of time. This, together with Surgeon’s passive HP bonus, make him a strong front-line contestant.

Toxic

Toxic is a Support class that can operate a drone capable of shooting deadly sulfur bombs. These instantly create a gas area on impact that slowly but steadily damages all players caught in it, including allies. Toxic is extremely effective in negating cover for enemies, as the gas can infiltrate buildings, flushing them out for him and his teammates to take them down or stopping them in their tracks. As opposed to the Guerrilla class, the gas cloud does not blind players, and can be easily seen through.

These two Classes are available a week early through the Year 2 Pass, but can also be purchased with Prestige Credits one week post-update.

CLASSES: BALANCING

Trapper
We’ve increased the Trapper’s available gas mines from 2 to 3, and have decreased his cooldown time from 40 to 30 seconds. We have decreased the fire rate for the PSG-1, but increased the damage for both the PSG-1 and the G28 rifles. The Desert Eagle is also available to pick as a handgun.

Stalker
The Stalker can now destroy any drone with only 1 shot, and we increased the damage of the SRSA1 rifle.

Guerrilla
We’ve reduced the recoil of the Guerrilla’s FAMAS G2 rifle.

Echelon
We’ve reduced the speed of the Echelon’s sonar pulse, translating into a longer time interval between detecting enemies.

While using the sonar pulse ability, enemy player markers that are outside the screen area are now shown as out-of-screen markers, indicating the general direction of the ping.

MAPS

Elimination Mode: Checkpoint Map

Our first Ghost War snow map, Checkpoint, is a small Santa Blanca checkpoint at the crest of a small mountain ridge in Inca Camina, that will give you the opportunity for both long and short-ranged combat. The large, snowy hills are the perfect home for a sniper’s nest, while a dense Santa Blanca outpost has just the right cover for CQC teams to engage the enemy!

Sabotage Mode: Factory

Factory is an industrial factory that has been taken over by the Santa Blanca to hide cocaine. The elevated areas of this map help to provide a fun mix of fast-paced CQC and mid-ranged sniping. Make sure to always cover your teammates’ six!

DAILY CHALLENGES
Earn Prestige Credits by completing our new Daily Challenges for Ghost War. You will receive one challenge each day, and can have a maximum of 5 open challenges at a time. They reward you with Prestige Credits depending on their difficulty and can be removed at any time to make space for new ones. Additionally, once per day, you can re-roll a challenge to instantly receive a new one in its place.

RANKED

Progression Bar
We’ve introduced a Progression Bar that tracks your Ranked progress and gives you feedback upon losing and winning matches. Now you can know your position in the current league, and how close you are to promoting or demoting Rank.

Elite Position
The Elite Rank will now tell you your exact position in that league, compared to other Elite players. Hence, your position may change depending on the progress of other players, even when you don’t engage in Ranked matches.

Double XP Event
A double XP event will now take place two times per week, each time lasting for 24 hours. This will double all XP sources inside a Ranked match, and will be showcased in the menu whenever it’s live.

PRESTIGE REVAMP

The Prestige system and economy has been reworked to meet community feedback, to offer a more dynamic Ghost War progression experience.

Prestige Progression
Prestige will now be automatically activated upon reaching Level 50, after which you begin again at Level 1. Your unlocked classes, perks and bonuses will not be reset anymore upon activating your first level of Prestige. Every upgrade point will be automatically spent to unlock all non-prestige progression tree items. The Prestige level cap has been increased from 10 to 999, while the Prestige Credits reward per level-up has been decreased from 215 to 115.

Prestige Crates
We’ve introduced a new type of Crate called, Prestige Crates. Prestige Crates can only be purchased with Prestige Credits, each one containing a customization item. From now on, new customization items will be added to our Spec Ops and Ghost War Battle Crates, whereas Prestige Crates will contain previously released items (minus Icons, which remain available via our Battle Crates only). You can find the full list of all of our Battle Crate Items here[ghostreconnetwork.ubi.com].

Additionally, we’ve introduced a counter that increases by 1 for every new item gained from a Prestige Crate. For any duplicate items received, the increment counter increases by 1 and you will receive 10 Store Credits. Every time the counter reaches 20, you will receive a free Battle Crate and the counter resets itself.

Prestige Store
The Store has been reworked and now features two different tabs – the Store and the Prestige Store. In the Prestige Store, you can buy any item that costs Prestige Credits, like Classes, Armory Packs, or Prestige Crates. This will also allow you to choose your preferred currency, between Prestige Credits or Store Credits, when buying Classes.

Armory Packs
Armory Packs are an exciting way to further customize your Ghost War Classes. Purchasable via Prestige Credits, Armory Packs contain weapons that are currently available in the Campaign, but may not already exist in Ghost War. Additionally, they are Class-specific. Head over to your Progression Tab to use your Prestige Credits to unlock new weapons for your Classes.

Prestige Credits
Along with the new Prestige Economy, we have added some new ways to gain Prestige Credits. You can now gain them not only by unlocking Prestige in Ghost War, but via progression through the Campaign challenge system, Ghost Mode and Tier 1 Mode. PVP voting, PVP progression, and PVP Ranked Seasons will also yield Prestige Credits.

PC MENU TEXT CHAT

We have added the possibility for players to text chat inside the PC menus, either with every player inside the session, or simply with their own squad.

POST-MATCH SCREEN

We introduced a new post-match screen where the winning team is showcased along with info about its members, while also showing their equipped victory poses.

PLAYER SQUAD SHOWCASING

You can now see which players are in a squad while matchmaking and playing online.

DRONES

All Drones have had their maximum marking range decreased to 250m: Drone HUD’s will now signal this.

STORE UPDATES

Battle Crates
Spec Ops and Ghost War Battle Crates have a new range of customization items.

Icon Skins
We’ve added new Rainbow Six Siege Operators to our current list of Icons: Jäger, Blitz, Zofia, Vigil, Blackbeard, Capitao and Jackal. Icons are only available through our Battle Crates.

Rainbow 6 Equipment Pack
This Rainbow Six Siege themed pack contains items that will help you achieve the look of your favorite Siege Operators. For both PVE and Ghost War, the Pack Revenge will contain a 1 Hole Balaclava, a Wrapped Shemagh, a Caveira Icon (including her iconic CQC), and a new Voice Line and Emote. The pack will also contain the 416 Rifle and the Luison weapon skin that are both available for use only in PVE. Please note that Caveira Gloves only unlock the position of nearby enemies in PVE.

PATCH 2.2

PATCH 2.2

Patch 2.2 will be deployed on Monday, July 23rd for PC. The primary focus on this patch is balancing changes and bug fixes.

GAMEPLAY CHANGES

ADVANCED DRONE DEPLOYMENT

Players will now have the option of not being immediately pulled into their drone’s camera after deploying it.

Standard: Will pull players into drone view immediately following deployment of their drone.

Advanced: Players will need to manually enter the drone’s camera after deployment.

OBSERVATION TOOL CYCLING

Players will now be able to select their preference for rotating through the Observation Tool groups, as well as cycle through the first and last Defender cameras.

Following the implementation of the new Observation Tool system, we have seen players express that they have two different expectations for how the cycling of the Observation Tools should function. Some players would like to see the “next tool” key bind stay within the same group, while others would like to see it cycle to the next grouping.

RESET KEY BINDINGS (PC)

The enter Observation Tool key bind can be found in the Operator Control section, and the Exit Observation Tool key can be found in the Observation Tool Control.

With the introduction of the new Observation Tool System, we split the key bindings section into three groups, General, Operator Control, Observation Tool Control. Enter/Exit Observation Tool was not split between Operator and Observation Tool controls, which led to that key bind not responding as expected.

Special Operation 2 is coming

Greetings Ghosts,

We have been thrilled to see your reactions to the announcement of the second year of content for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, and the release of Special Operation 1. And now, releasing on July 24, Special Operation 2 will bring even more content for all of our players.

https://youtu.be/JTt8pCROSCU

Special Operation 2 will include a new strong theme, PVE experiences, Ghost War updates, as well as community-requested features. Let’s dive into more details:

Ghost Mode: Ghost mode is designed for the best of the best Ghosts out there. In this mode, you’ll be able to create a new character in order to take down the Santa Blanca under the most thrilling conditions.

  • With only one primary weapon by your side, you’ll need to choose carefully. You will only be able to change your loadout at either an ammo box, or by looting fallen enemies.
  • You will also need to plan out your reloads, as any remaining ammo in your magazine will be lost.
  • Be extremely careful with your shots, Ghosts, or you could bring down your co-op team with friendly fire.
  • And most importantly, with Ghost Mode, death is permanent. So stay frosty.

Ghost Mode will be available for all difficulty settings, including Tier 1 Mode. And of course this challenge doesn’t come without rewards: more to come on that in our patchnotes. So put your skills to the test and reap the benefits that will come with success!

This free mode will be available for all players, with a week-early access for Year 2 Pass holders starting on July 24th, 2018.

True Solo: Those who are truly looking for a lone wolf experience can now toggle off their AI teammates in both our Campaign and Ghost Mode. Up for the challenge?

New PVP Maps: We have two new maps coming to Ghost War, including a highly community- requested snow map.

Victory Screen: The taste of victory will be made even sweeter with the return of the Victory Screen at the end of Ghost War matches. The winning team will now get to show off their customization and victory poses after a well-earned win.

Observer Mode: Take your Ghost War experience to the next level with our brand new Observer Mode. Simply go into Custom Matches to both watch and showcase your Ghost War games. Game on!

Ghost War Challenges: New daily challenges will now be available in Ghost War, rewarding players with Prestige credits for their extra hard work.

PATCH NOTES ADDENDUM

With the Seasonal Test Servers now closed, we have an updated list of changes in the Year 3 Season 2.0 patch. These notes serve as an addendum to the original patch notes for Operation Para Bellum, located here[rainbow6.ubisoft.com].

R6FIX

We will now be using R6FIX to manage bug reports for both Live and Test Servers.

If you encounter a bug, please navigate to https://r6fix.ubi.com/ and submit your findings today!

GLAZ OTS-03 RATE OF FIRE

The rate of fire for Glaz’s rifle was increased from 220 RPM to 235.

He was slightly buffed to account for other changes that are coming in Operation Para Bellum.

CLAYMORE PLACEMENT EASE OF USE
  • Claymores can be placed closer to walls and objects in the environment.
  • Claymores are now less picky about the slope of the ground it is being placed on.
  • Pickup is slightly easier to do from different heights.

We will be making some changes to the way dropshotting works. Starting with Para Bellum, it will not be possible to go prone from a standing position without been taken out of ADS.

GRENADE THROWBACK

We have removed the ability to throw grenades back at enemies. This feature did not perform as we had intended, and was prone to collateral damage as a result. TOWER TO BE REMOVED FROM RANKED MAP PLAYLIST

We will be removing Tower from the Ranked Playlist at the start of Year 3 Season 2, Operation Para Bellum. Tower is being removed for the following reasons:

  • Tower’s overall balance is not where we want it to be for a Ranked playlist.
  • Due to the size of the map, roamers have an unfair advantage as it takes a significant amount of time to drone and clear the map.
  • Our Level Design team direction lends itself to more vertical gameplay.
  • Tower does not include the competitive design learnings that we have applied to other maps, such as the buffed Clubhouse and Villa.
  • Many areas are too dark for optimal performance.
  • Difficult to play in a group that does not work together regularly.

There are now 11 maps in the Ranked map rotation.

We are interested in hearing your feedback, and invite you to share it with us on the forum [forums.ubi.com] and subreddit.
