CoD Warzone & Modern Warfare Weekly Update: New Playlists Now Live

This week in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone check out the 3v3 snipers and Duos Stimulus playlists, plus get a discount on battle pass tiers. Infinity Ward has outlined this week’s playlist update and new store items.

Modern Warfare Playlists

In Modern Warfare, a number of new playlsits are now live, including Reinfected Ground War, Gunfight 3v3 (snipers only), Shoot the Ship, Ground War, and Cranked. Reinfected Ground War takes the popular party game mode and places it on large-scale maps, while Shoot the Ship is a playlist consisting of just Shoot House and Shipment for those who like constant firefights.

In Cranked, players have a limited amount of time to get successive kills or they will explode. Gunfight 3v3 snipers only puts players’ long-range–or quick scoping–skills to the test.

New Microtransaction Bundles

A new look for Charly is available as part of the Earth Expeditionary Force bundle, which includes the Outrider skin and the Legendary Colonial Standard LMG plus a watch, weapon charm, calling card, and emblem.

The Racing Series: Mach 8′ bundle is available in store, which includes red tracer blueprints for the Autoclave SMG and the Winner’s Circle Handgun, plus two vehicle skins and a horn for Warzone. Players can also buy individual tiers for the battle pass for 100 Call of Duty points, which normally cost 150 points.

Warzone Playlists

In Warzone, Plunder Quads has replaced Plunder Trios and Warzone Rumble, with Duos Stimulus coming this weekend. In Duos Stimulus players with enough cash will automatically get redeployed into the match upon death, skipping over the Gulag.

The usual suspects, Battle Royale Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads, are also currently available.

In other Warzone news, Infinity Ward has recently been teasing Season 5, including the possibility of a train. Call of Duty Mobile recently added ranked multiplayer, a new game mode, and more.

CoD: Season 5 For Warzone And Modern Warfare Teased With Train Video

Infinity Ward appears to be teasing its plans for Season 5 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. Though the tease is short on details, it may give us an indication of when to expect the next season to drop, including the possible arrival of a train. It could be sooner than you expected. In fact, you may want to start brushing up on your trick shots now.

Charlie Intel reports that the company sent a video to Twitch streamer NICKMERCS. The video shows the date August 5, which is when the current Battle Pass is set to end. It also shows a vehicle on a train track, and late in the video a helicopter flies overhead. One of Warzone’s Hunting the Enemy intel missions previously involved a train, and there have also been references to an underground train, so it’s possible one could be added to the map. Datamining further suggests the stadium will finally open up.

We may see more teasers coming in advance of the new season launch. There have also been consistent rumors that Activision will tease or announce this year’s Call of Duty game from within Warfare, in absence of a press event or televisted sports games to show off the big reveal. We know that Warzone will continue to evolve with new annual Call of Duty game releases. With only a few months left before a new game traditionally launches, Activision doesn’t have much time to waste. Rumors point to a possible Black Ops reboot.

Infinity Ward often drops new game modes and big changes in new season changeovers, along with new story content featuring fan-favorite characters. Warzone has also often gotten significant updates mid-season. Recently, though, lots of Call of Duty updates have been focused on removing or revising offensive cosmetics, like the OK gesture or a “Border War” skin.

June 2020 NPD: The Last Of Us 2 Has Biggest Launch Month Of 2020

The financial analyst NPD Group has released its latest results for June 2020, and not surprisingly, the industry is still breaking records as the coronavirus pandemic causes more people to stay in and play games.

According to the results, spending on hardware, software, and accessories hit $1.2 billion, a 26% increase from 2019 and the highest June spending on record since 2009. Likewise, year-to-date spending is up 19% compared to 2019, the highest year-to-date for this period since 2010.

Software sales led most of the growth, increasing 49% over last year to $570 million. Again, that’s the highest since 2010. Standouts include The Last of Us 2, which had the highest launch month dollar sales of any 2020 game, and is the third best-selling game of the year so far. It also takes second place for a Sony launch, just behind Spider-Man, which had more days on the market. Ring Fit Adventure also did very well for a game that has been notoriously hard to find.

By comparison, hardware spending slumped a bit, declining 17% compared to 2019. That marks the first month of declines since February, though, so year-to-date hardware spending is still up 25% over 2019. Those sales are once again led by Nintendo Switch.

Check out the full results below. Note that this is US data only, and some digital sales like Nintendo Eshop sales aren’t included in NPD’s figures.
