Call Of Duty: Warzone Adds A New Item

Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale spin-off of Modern Warfare, has gotten a new item with the latest update. The “Armor Box” can be purchased before or during a battle if you need a little extra protection.

According to an update on the Call of Duty Blog, the new Armor Box is available across all battle royale modes. It’s similar to a Munitions Box in that you can use it to supply the entire team, but as the name implies, it provides armor instead of ammo. You can find it in ground loot or supply boxes, or you can purchase it at the Buy station.

That’s not the only change in Warzone this week. The update also adds more weapons to the Gulag, giving ranged options that Infinity Ward hopes will make for more diverse strategies. And a limited-time “Classic Battle Royale” mode gives you the same Warzone but without Buy Stations, Contracts, or the Gulag.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have been getting frequent updates, both with game updates like new maps and balance changes, as well as security measures. Recently the game added mandatory 2FA as an anti-cheating measure on PC.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Adds New Gunfight Map This Week

Another week means some new content will hit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This week, developer Infinity Ward will introduce a new Gunfight map to Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode: Aisle 9.

Infinity Ward said there are “multiple ways to fight on this small map,” which will host a variety of game modes in its own playlist. Dubbed “Clean Up on Aisle 9,” the 3v3 moshpit will feature Domination, Grind, Kill Confirmed, and Team Deathmatch. It will also get tossed into the mode’s map rotation.

I wonder if that truck is good for cover…

Some other additions and changes will come to both Modern Warfare and Warzone this week as well. This includes a new multiplayer map, bringing more weapons into The Gulag, adding a new item to Warzone, and more.

In other Call of Duty news, Infinity Ward adjusted some of Modern Warfare multiplayer game modes in a recent update. For example, Gun Game Reloaded has a new home in the Quick Play filter, while Boots on the Ground War has been reverted back to classic Ground War. In addition to this, the studio added the Demolition game mode to Modern Warfare’s multiplayer playlist.

Ubisoft Has 11 Games That Have Sold Over 10 Million Copies This Gen, And Some Are Surprising

Ubisoft’s latest earnings report contains some information about their sales across this console generation, including the franchises and games that have done particularly well. Ubisoft has announced that 11 games across 6 franchises have sold over 10 million units after releasing on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad posted a graphic to Twitter highlighting the company’s biggest sellers, and some of them might come as a surprise. The games that have sold 10 million units or more are:

  • Assassin’s Creed Unity
  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • The Division
  • The Division 2
  • Far Cry 4
  • Far Cry 5
  • Ghost Recon Wildlands
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Watch Dogs
  • Watch Dogs 2

The Assassin’s Creed series has evidently done well, although it’s worth sparing a thought for the excellent Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, which did not hit the same sales milestone. Curiously, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag had shipped 10 million units back in 2014, yet does not appear. This could be because it was a cross-generational title, although by that logic Far Cry 4 and Watch Dogs should be disqualified, too. It’s possible that those games specifically sold 10 million only on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, though, and that a higher percentage of Black Flag’s sales were for other consoles.

It also seems that Far Cry Primal and Far Cry New Dawn have not reached the heights of the numbered entries in the series, while Ghost Recon Breakpoint had a disappointing launch and hasn’t hit this sales milestone.

A few of these games have perhaps done better than expected. Watch Dogs 2 struggled at launch, with some reports putting physical sales in its first week at 80 percent below those of its predecessor. Evidently, the game bounced back. The Division 2 has also sold better than its frequent enormous price cuts might lead you to believe–but then, it’s also likely that a lot of people have taken the plunge on it when it’s heavily discounted.

In any case, it’s fair to say that Ubisoft sold a lot of games this generation. The publisher has several games announced already for next-generation consoles, including Watch Dogs: Legion, Gods and Monsters, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Rainbow Six: Quarantine.

Activision Blizzard To Hire 2,000 Employees In The Next Year

It appears Activision Blizzard’s hiring spree at Call of Duty: WWII developer Sledgehammer Games is just one part of the company’s overall ambition to increase its development headcount.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said on Twitter that the company plans to hire more than 2,000 people in the next year. “Over the next year, Activision Blizzard is aiming to hire over 2,000 employees so that our incredibly talented teams can continue making epic entertainment,” Kotick said.

The executive did not provide a breakdown of hiring plans by division, however. Activision Blizzard operates Activision (Call of Duty, Tony Hawk), Blizzard (WoW, Diablo, Overwatch), and King (Candy Crush).

In February 2019, Activision Blizzard announced a round of layoffs that impacted around 800 people across its divisions, including Activision, Blizzard, and King. At the same time as it announced the layoffs, Activision Blizzard stated that it was planning to “increase development investment” on its biggest franchises. To that end, the company announced that the number of developers working on Call of Duty, Candy Crush, Overwatch, Warcraft, Hearthstone, and Diablo in aggregate would increase by around 20 percent in 2019. Now, it appears Activision Blizzard is ramping up even further.

The layoffs were said to impact non-development and administrative positions instead of game development jobs for the most part. The company’s headcount reportedly stood at 10,000 before the layoffs, dropping to around 9,200 after the layoffs. With 2,000 more positions being added in the next year, Activision Blizzard’s total headcount will climb above 11,000.

Sledgehammer Games, the developer of Call of Duty: WWII and co-developer on Call of Duty: Warzone, recently announced it was looking to add 100 positions across its studios in California and Australia. Unlike in the past, the studio is now working on multiple games at the same time.

In other Activision news, the company has announced remasters of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, which are due for release in September.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Playlist Update Now Live On All Platforms

Developer Infinity Ward has rolled out a playlist update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One that makes some adjustments to various multiplayer game modes.

This first of these is the placement of Gun Game Reloaded. Now, the frenetic mode can be found in the Quick Player filter in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer. In addition to this change, Boots on the Ground War has been reverted back to classic Ground War, and the Dirty Old Houseboat moshpit–which includes the maps Rust, Shipment, and Shoot House–is now live on all platforms.

This Modern Warfare playlist update is server-side, meaning you only have to log into the game in order for the update to install.

Infinity Ward has also previously announced that a separate Modern Warfare playlist update will arrive later this week. It will add Demolition, 3v3 Gunfight Knives Only, and more. Further, the studio outlined various other changes coming to both Modern Warfare and Warzone this week, including a new Operator and legendary weapons, additional weapon blueprints, and more.
