Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Brings Back Classic Mode

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is bringing back one of the franchise’s most chaotic game modes. This week’s playlist update will bring back the Drop Zone mode, which first debuted in 2011’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The team-based mode challenges players to hold objectives to win, with teams earning points by staying inside the designated…drop zone. The first team to reach the goal point total wins the match. The hook with Drop Zone is that killstreaks continually fall from the sky while you’re holding the zone, which leads to some particularly turbulent gameplay.

A blog post by Activision offers a number of tips, tricks, and strategies for succeeding in Drop Zone, which is played across a variety of maps such as Crash, Arklov Peak, and Granza Raid.

Drop Zone originated in Modern Warfare 3, and it was subsequently featured in other Infinity Ward-developed titles such as Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The mode will come to Modern Warfare at some point during the week of April 13 across PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

It’s a big week for Call of Duty, as Warzone introduces a new way to play, while Infinity Ward will offer double XP for the weekend. Modern Warfare’s Season 3 is currently underway, and you can check out the new maps in a dedicated playlist right now.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone Double XP Event Coming Soon, Here's When

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the battle royale spin-off game Warzone will offer double XP this weekend, developer Infinity Ward has announced.

The studio will turn on double XP beginning April 17 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, and it will stay activated until April 20 at the same time. The double XP applies to standard multiplayer, the Spec Ops co-op mode, and Warzone. It’s also worth noting that this is standard progression XP, not weapon XP.

This double XP event comes at the start of Modern Warfare’s Season 3, which introduces a new Battle Pass and more maps. The double XP bonus will help you rise through the Battle Pass tiers faster, while you can check out the new maps in the Season 3 Moshpit playlist. It includes Hovec Sawmill, Aniyah Incursion, and Talsik Backlot, featuring a few different objective-based and standard deathmatch modes.

In other news, Infinity Ward is releasing a new Warzone variant featuring only shotguns and snipers. The mode arrives as Infinity Ward cracks down further on Warzone cheaters, with even more systems coming in the future to thwart offending players.

SNL Makes The Most Of Quarantine With Call Of Duty: Warzone Twitch Sketch

Saturday Night Live has been on hiatus for several weeks due to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, but the show returned on April 11 for a special remote episode hosted by Tom Hanks. Actors were confined to their homes, and Mikey Day made the most of it with a Twitch stream sketch featuring a very poor Call of Duty: Warzone player.

In the sketch, insufferable content creator “Cam Playz Dat” says he’s playing the new Warzone game, but actually begins a game of free-for-all in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. There is little time for those unfamiliar to discern this as he’s shot roughly one second into the match.

Cam Playz Dat criticizes anyone sniping by his respawn location, which is a tactic commonly used by Twitch viewers in order to kill streamers. Of course, this isn’t the reason he’s dying so quickly. He is just very, very bad at the game, and after snapping at a viewer who makes fun of him with a classic “your mom” comeback, he’s forced to apologize.

He eventually gives up on playing Call of Duty and switches to Super Mario Bros. You can probably guess how well that went.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available for free on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game recently passed 50 million players, hitting the impressive milestone less than one month after launching.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Hits Big Player Milestone

Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale component of Modern Warfare, has hit a new player milestone. Just one month after launch the game has hit 50 million players, according to publisher Activision.

Warzone got off to a quick start, surpassing 6 million players in the first 24 hours and then hitting 15 million after a few days. Following that initial burst it has continued to steadily add more players, and the new 50 million number means it’s been gathering an average of more than a million per day since then.

It’s not surprising that a free-to-play Call of Duty would attract a large audience. The similarly F2P Call of Duty Mobile recently reached 150 million downloads worldwide. And both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the standalone Warzone have been performing well in sales charts. Modern Warfare and the standalone Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered hit #1 and #5 on the most recent PlayStation Network sales charts, respectively. Warzone topped the F2P chart.

PS4 has been home to some exclusive content for Modern Warfare, which may be partly driving its popularity there. Modern Warfare recently launched Season 3 with a new battle pass and tons of updates like new maps and operators. Warzone shares its multiplayer and battle pass progression with Modern Warfare, so you can earn all the same cosmetic rewards whether or not you own the full game.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Brings Back Trios

Call of Duty Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale as part of Modern Warfare, got rid of Trios mode when it launched Season 3, introducing Quads instead. That only lasted a couple of days, because Infinity Ward has now added Trios back into the game, alongside Quads so you can take your pick.

Infinity Ward tweeted out the announcement that Trios was back. At first the return of Trios was using older, pre-Season 3 loot pools, but Infinity Ward quickly issued a fix for that as well.

Other recent changes include a price increase for the Loadout Drop to $10,000, marking another price change to the powerful ability following feedback that it was still overpowered. It lets you call in an airdrop that comes with a loadout of weapons, so the ability to pick your weaponry beforehand can be a big advantage. The update also shows a distance counter between yourself and teammates to help squads stick together.

Season 3 introduces more free maps and free weapons alongside the paid cosmetics in the premium battle pass. It also brings back a familiar face as a new operator, Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign. Two more operators will be joining during the season. A teaser for the season could hint at what’s to come next as well. Plus, it brings back the series’ favorite very good boy.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's Official Website Briefly Listed A Duos Mode For Warzone

The Season 3 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recently went live, introducing a slate of new content to the game, from the introduction of three additional maps, to new weapons and Operators, a host of other tweaks and fixes, and much more.

Call of Duty: Warzone–the free-to-play battle royale experience–has also seen a number of changes and new content, most notably the addition of Quads. This new game mode expands your team size to four players instead of the three Warzone initially started with, but some players are miffed that Trios has been axed altogether.

You and a friend might’ve been able to grin and bear it with a random teammate, but that’s harder to do when you’re stuck with two–and that’s if they don’t quit the game beforehand, leaving you in the lurch against the unenviable odds of 2v4 firefights. Developer Infinity Ward at least seems cognizant of this and is planning to add Duos to the list of game modes at some point during the season.

The Season 3 landing page on the official site previously featured a Warzone section for new modes that listed Quads, Duos, and a third tile that’s left open for “more throughout the season.” The site has since been updated to remove any mention of this, but not before people managed to grab screenshots.

Other new additions are coming to Warzone over the coming weeks, too, including changes to loot (like silenced and non-silenced variants of weapons littered throughout the map), tweaks to the playlist (such as “Scopes and Scatter Guns,” which forces players to use snipers and shotguns only), additional weapons and blueprints, and more.
