Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Introduces A New Operator, More To Come Later In Season

The next season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to launch soon, and Activision has teased some of the big additions coming in Season 3. Among those is a new Operator, who comes with some big implications for the single-player campaign. Spoilers ahead.

As noted in a blog post, the new addition will be Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign. But as those who finished the campaign know, Alex heroically sacrificed himself by manually triggering explosives in a chemical facility. Except, surprise, he apparently made it out of the whole ordeal–albeit with an injury that has given him a prosthetic leg. Alex had been teased in a Season 3 poster with the prosthesis, but this confirms it’s intended as canon.

Alex will be unlockable with the purchase of the battle pass or battle pass bundle, which includes 20 tier skips. The Tier 0 will also net you a shirtless Yegor skin, if that strikes your fancy. Sometime during the season, the saboteur Ronin and Chimera Allegiance fighter Iskra will join as well. All of them will be playable in standard multiplayer as well as the battle royale Warzone, which is getting Quads this season.

The new season will begin on April 8. Infinity Ward and Activision teased some of its additions, including Alex, with a new trailer. The blog post also detailed the other star of any new Call of Duty season, the new maps.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Adds New Maps

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Season 3 kicking on Wednesday, April 8, developer Infinity Ward has confirmed that the first-person shooter will get three new multiplayer maps this season.

The first is the long-deserted location Talsik Backlot, a remastered map from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It sits in the middle of the Urzikstan desert, where a construction project has since been abandoned. Backlot features close-quarters combat in tight buildings and elevated sightlines perfect for snipers.

The Hovec Sawmill, a “three-lane map with a balance of mid to long-range sightlines,” is the second location. It’s an entirely new locale for Modern Warfare and has accessible rooftops for players to avoid the burning village and frenetic combat down below.

Lastly, the Aniyah Palace, which was featured in Ground War, is the third map and comes with an interesting twist. Instead of the 20 players the map used to hold, the new Aniyah Palace is “a more enclosed version of the area based around the central palace in Aniyah Incursion.” It has long sightlines and tiny crawl spaces excellent for slipping away to flank enemies. However, using Killstreaks is a little more difficult here thanks to the tighter, more compact area.

All three maps are available for owners of Modern Warfare on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One, and can be played in 6v6 modes. You can check them all out below.

A host of additions and changes are coming to both Modern Warfare and its standalone battle royale experience, Call of Duty: Warzone, in Season 3. This includes a new Quads mode for Warzone, more Operators and weapons, customization options like skins, and more.

In other Call of Duty news, Infinity Ward is still trying to get to the bottom of the Battle Pass tier progression bug. The studio is aware of the problem and working on resolving the issue, but currently, Infinity Ward has no word on when the bug will be ironed out. The free tier skip promotion lets anyone who purchased the Season 2 Battle Pass 10 free tier skips before the season concluded.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Teases Season 3 With New Trailer

The new season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is beginning on April 8, and Infinity Ward has teased what’s in store for the season of content with a trailer. It shows off a returning character, loads of new maps, and some gear and vehicles.

For starters, it promises the return of “old friends,” showing campaign protagonist Alex now with a prosthetic leg. This was shown in the teaser poster that announced the date as well, but touting him as an old friend suggests this may be in-canon to the Modern Warfare story. The trailer also promises bigger squads, referring to the upcoming Quads mode.

Other goodies shown off include new rides like an ATV and Rothwynn Carnage truck, several new guns, and several new maps. Those include Talsik Backlot, Hovec Sawmill, and Aniyah Incursion. Another map, reportedly called Village, has was previously leaked. The maps will be free, as this latest Call of Duty only sells cosmetic items through its battle pass system.

Season 3 launches on April 8. That leaves only a little while left to finish your battle pass, which could be completed with a free tier skip promotion that Activision launched last week. However, that has been bugged for some players, not awarding the tiers. The theme for this upcoming season is Worlds Collide.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Teaser Image Has An Ominous Message

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s new Season 3 update is launching very soon this week, on April 8, and now a new piece of marketing material has offered a slight tease about what to expect. CharlieIntel reports that a marketing email for Season 3 has been sent to some people ahead of schedule, and the message teases that “worlds collide” in the new update.

“Operators return, NEW gear arrives, and worlds collide,” a line in the material says. An image included in the email shows a new character skin for Alex, the soldier who many were surprised to see in the initial teaser for Season 3 due to the events of the Modern Warfare campaign. Check out the image above.

The Season 3 update will include updates and new content for Modern Warfare’s multiplayer and Spec Ops mode, as well as the battle royale game Warzone. It’s expected there will be a new Season 3 Battle Pass, too.

In the midst of Modern Warfare Season 2, Activision also released Modern Warfare 2 Remastered on PS4, with PC and Xbox One versions to come in late April. It’s a standalone game, not part of the Modern Warfare package, and it doesn’t include multiplayer, so as to not split the player base in Modern Warfare.

Call Of Duty League Returns This Weekend With One Big Change

After planning to move all of its in-person matches online due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the competitive Call of Duty League esports competition is finally returning this weekend.

The 2020 Call of Duty League season will continue on Friday, April 10 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 8 PM GMT. The broadcast will go live on the company’s official YouTube channel, with the format pivoting to “a fully online production” with this new style “follow[ing] the original tournament structure,” according to a press release.

You can check the image below to see the home series schedule. The CDL also shared an updated 2020 schedule for the first games taking place this weekend.

“I spent many years at the NFL, and saw firsthand how sports can lift the human spirit,” league commissioner Johanna Faries said in the press release. “No one wants to be in this situation, but we are, and we’re thankful that Call of Duty Leagye can forge ahead and deliver live competition to fans when it’s probably needed most.”

The CDL will move all of its production to online and at-home broadcast for the foreseeable future, with the company giving its “utmost dedication to the health and safety of our players, staff, team personnel, and fans.”

The Overwatch League, which is also owned and operated by publisher Activision Blizzard, has also canceled its in-person matches for the next few months. Instead, much like the CDL, the OWL pivoted to a fully-online production, with staff and players all practicing social distancing and working from home.
