Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare/Warzone Season 3 Update Is Out Now; File Size Is Smaller This Time

A new chapter of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone has begun. Infinity Ward has officially released the much-anticipated Season 3 update on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Like the Season 2 update before it, this is a substantial update in terms of its file size. On Xbox One, it’s 13.6 GB. It’s 11.7 GB on PS4 and 16 GB on PC, according to CharlieIntel.

While you wait for the download to complete, you can check out the full Season 3 patch notes here. It’s a big update, but it’s much smaller than the Season 2 update, which was between 50 GB and 100 GB depending on your platform.

In addition to a number of under-the-hood changes, the Season 3 update for Modern Warfare and Warzone introduces new content in form of new multiplayer maps and a Quads mode for Warzone. A new Operator, Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign, is also headed to Modern Warfare. There is a new Season 3 Battle Pass, too, that comes with various cosmetics and even Riley, the dog from Call of Duty: Ghosts.

CoD: Modern Warfare Season 3 Patch Notes: New Update's Changes And Features Detailed

The patch notes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s much-anticipated Season 3 update have arrived, detailing all of the changes, tweaks, and new features coming to the military shooter. The update itself hasn’t arrived just yet, but it should be released in a matter of hours, if not sooner. [Update: The patch is out now; go, go go!]

One of the biggest changes in the update is for the Warzone multiplayer mode. The cost of one of the game’s most useful features, the Loadout Drop, has increased to $10,000. The cost of the Loadout Drop from the Buy Station started at $6,000 before moving up to $8,500, and now it’s even higher. Many players have remarked that the Loadout Drop is negatively affecting game balance, and the higher price point should help smooth things out, at least to a degree.

The Loadout Drop is one of Warzone’s distinctive features. It allows players to call in an airdrop that comes with a pre-made loadout of any weapons and items that players have already unlocked. As such, it can be incredibly useful on the battlefield.

Another change for Warzone is that the game will now display the distance between yourself and your teammates, which should help squads stay together. Additionally, the patch fixes a bug that could allow a player to become invincible if they are downed at the moment they are switching seats in the Tac Rover vehicle.

Some Modern Warfare and Warzone weapons also see changes in the update. Akimbo weapons now begin with two extra magazines of ammo instead of one. The VLK Rogue Shotgun, meanwhile, has a tighter spread when firing from the hip, and all shotgun slugs have had their aim-down-sights spread decreased.

You can see the full Season 3 patch notes below, as posted by Infinity Ward.

In addition to these under-the-hood changes, the Season 3 update for Modern Warfare and Warzone introduces new content in form of new multiplayer maps and a Quads mode for Warzone. A new Operator, Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign, is also headed to Modern Warfare. There is a new Season 3 Battle Pass, too, that comes with various cosmetics and even Riley, the dog from Call of Duty: Ghosts.

New Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Trials Announced

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Season 3 update is coming soon, and with it comes more Trials that you can complete to earn even more XP to help you rank up faster. [Update: the patch is out now; go, go go!]

There are four new Trials in the Season 3 update, each of which pays out a whopping 10,000 XP if you can reach the 3-star ranking. Complete them all and you can earn 40,000 extra XP.

As announced on the Activision blog, the trials take place on a variety of maps, including Vacant, Hackney Yard, Piccadilly, Docks, Stack, and Euphrates Bridge, among others. As always, the challenges are varied. For example, Shooting Range requires you to locate and kill all targets as fast as you can and using as little ammo as possible. The Marksman challenge, meanwhile, asks you to take down enemies at range against the clock. You can see a full rundown of the four new Trials below.

Modern Warfare Season 3 Trials

  • Gun Course – Played on Vacant in two variations (with or without Smoke), make your way through the course as fast as possible while clearing all enemy targets and avoiding civilian casualties
  • Risky Parkour – Available on three stages, each with a unique course (Hackney Yard, Piccadilly, Gun Runner), move through each checkpoint and finish the course as fast as possible. Beware of the heavy toxic gas on low ground.
  • Shooting Range – Available on Docks (rifles) and Stack (shotgun), locate and shoot all targets in the area, quickly, while conserving ammunition.
  • Marksman Challenge – Playable on Euphrates Bridge in two variations (sniper rifle and handgun), engage waves of long-distance targets and beat the clock. Missed shots burn time.

The Season 3 update is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and you can find out exactly when it launches here. The update adds new multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare, as well as a new Quads mode for Warzone. The new Battle Pass contains a lot of new cosmetic items to unlock, including Riley the dog from Call of Duty: Ghosts, who returns with a special finishing move.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Battle Pass Detailed, Includes Two Free Weapons

Season 3 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare kicks off tomorrow, April 8, and it introduces a slate of new content to the game, including three additional maps right on day one and a Quads mode for Warzone, among other things. A new season also means there will be a new battle pass, and Activision has detailed what that gets you, including two free weapons.

On its official blog, Activision reveals that you’ll receive two free weapons as part of the Season 3 battle pass: the Renetti handgun and SKS marksman rifle. The former is unlocked at Tier 15, while the latter becomes available at Tier 31.

Activision describes the Renetti as “a well-rounded semi-auto 9mm pistol” that “excels in close-range combat.” The SKS marksman rifle, on the other hand, is a “hard hitting and agile Soviet-style marksman rifle [that] focuses on utility over accuracy.” Both guns can be customized with a variety of Gunsmith configurations, the publisher says.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Battle Pass benefits

In addition to the aforementioned weapon, battle pass holders will unlock Season 3’s new Operator from the outset. You’ll be able to play as the new Operator right away when you purchase a battle pass or battle pass bundle, which includes 20 free tier skips. The battle pass also includes a new shirtless skin for Yegor.

As before, you’ll be able to level up the battle pass and unlock more rewards as you play throughout the season, including Call of Duty points, Operator skins, weapon blueprints, and more. The battle pass costs 1,000 Call of Duty points, while the bundle will set you back 2,400 points. You can read more about it on Activision’s website.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Introduces A New Operator, More To Come Later In Season

The next season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to launch soon, and Activision has teased some of the big additions coming in Season 3. Among those is a new Operator, who comes with some big implications for the single-player campaign. Spoilers ahead.

As noted in a blog post, the new addition will be Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign. But as those who finished the campaign know, Alex heroically sacrificed himself by manually triggering explosives in a chemical facility. Except, surprise, he apparently made it out of the whole ordeal–albeit with an injury that has given him a prosthetic leg. Alex had been teased in a Season 3 poster with the prosthesis, but this confirms it’s intended as canon.

Alex will be unlockable with the purchase of the battle pass or battle pass bundle, which includes 20 tier skips. The Tier 0 will also net you a shirtless Yegor skin, if that strikes your fancy. Sometime during the season, the saboteur Ronin and Chimera Allegiance fighter Iskra will join as well. All of them will be playable in standard multiplayer as well as the battle royale Warzone, which is getting Quads this season.

The new season will begin on April 8. Infinity Ward and Activision teased some of its additions, including Alex, with a new trailer. The blog post also detailed the other star of any new Call of Duty season, the new maps.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 Adds New Maps

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Season 3 kicking on Wednesday, April 8, developer Infinity Ward has confirmed that the first-person shooter will get three new multiplayer maps this season.

The first is the long-deserted location Talsik Backlot, a remastered map from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It sits in the middle of the Urzikstan desert, where a construction project has since been abandoned. Backlot features close-quarters combat in tight buildings and elevated sightlines perfect for snipers.

The Hovec Sawmill, a “three-lane map with a balance of mid to long-range sightlines,” is the second location. It’s an entirely new locale for Modern Warfare and has accessible rooftops for players to avoid the burning village and frenetic combat down below.

Lastly, the Aniyah Palace, which was featured in Ground War, is the third map and comes with an interesting twist. Instead of the 20 players the map used to hold, the new Aniyah Palace is “a more enclosed version of the area based around the central palace in Aniyah Incursion.” It has long sightlines and tiny crawl spaces excellent for slipping away to flank enemies. However, using Killstreaks is a little more difficult here thanks to the tighter, more compact area.

All three maps are available for owners of Modern Warfare on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One, and can be played in 6v6 modes. You can check them all out below.

A host of additions and changes are coming to both Modern Warfare and its standalone battle royale experience, Call of Duty: Warzone, in Season 3. This includes a new Quads mode for Warzone, more Operators and weapons, customization options like skins, and more.

In other Call of Duty news, Infinity Ward is still trying to get to the bottom of the Battle Pass tier progression bug. The studio is aware of the problem and working on resolving the issue, but currently, Infinity Ward has no word on when the bug will be ironed out. The free tier skip promotion lets anyone who purchased the Season 2 Battle Pass 10 free tier skips before the season concluded.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Teases Season 3 With New Trailer

The new season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is beginning on April 8, and Infinity Ward has teased what’s in store for the season of content with a trailer. It shows off a returning character, loads of new maps, and some gear and vehicles.

For starters, it promises the return of “old friends,” showing campaign protagonist Alex now with a prosthetic leg. This was shown in the teaser poster that announced the date as well, but touting him as an old friend suggests this may be in-canon to the Modern Warfare story. The trailer also promises bigger squads, referring to the upcoming Quads mode.

Other goodies shown off include new rides like an ATV and Rothwynn Carnage truck, several new guns, and several new maps. Those include Talsik Backlot, Hovec Sawmill, and Aniyah Incursion. Another map, reportedly called Village, has was previously leaked. The maps will be free, as this latest Call of Duty only sells cosmetic items through its battle pass system.

Season 3 launches on April 8. That leaves only a little while left to finish your battle pass, which could be completed with a free tier skip promotion that Activision launched last week. However, that has been bugged for some players, not awarding the tiers. The theme for this upcoming season is Worlds Collide.
