Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Update–Patch Notes Nerf 725 Shotgun And More

Developer Infinity Ward has released a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update that addresses several issues relating to stability and playability, including adjusting the bugged double-barreled 725 shotgun. The full patch notes can be viewed below.

According to a Reddit post, this new Modern Warfare patch is now live for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. While the headlining feature is a slight change to the 725 shotgun, the patch takes aim at preventing crashes across all modes and platforms, modifying the directional sound and speed of footsteps, fixing Mission Challenge descriptions, and more.

A variety of weapons have been altered in this newly-released Modern Warfare patch. The 725 shotgun, capable of shooting and killing from across the map, has had its range reduced. Alongside the 725, the hip spread of assault rifles has been adjusted, the M4 has had its head damage decreased, and both the EB-14 and FAL saw an increase in their aiming down sights (ADS) speed.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has seen a few patches since its October 25 launch on consoles and PC. Apart from this new patch, Infinity Ward released its biggest update to the Modern Warfare reboot to date. The free 1.07 update added new content in the form of maps and an additional game mode, addressed some of the community’s most-pressing complaints, and more.

New Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Patch Nerfs The 725 Shotgun (Again) [Update]

Following a patch that already nerfed the gun, Activision released another update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to address one of the military shooter’s most controversial firearms. The new Modern Warfare patch is out now, and it does indeed reduce the 725’s range, according to the patch notes. That change comes in addition to a number of other tweaks that are now live on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Specifically, the update will “massage out” instances where the 725 is seemingly too effective at range, Cecot said. As you can see in the video below, the 725 is still very, very effective at a distance, which many have remarked makes the shotgun far too powerful.

The 725 is a break-action shotgun that carries only two rounds. It’s also not a standard shotgun. The weapon has a cylindrical choke that keeps the projectile spread tight. This is what makes the 725 effective at long ranges unlike other, more standard shotguns.

In another tweet, Cecot said Infinity Ward is being careful to make sure that whatever changes it plans for the 725 do not impact the “soul” of the weapon. He also confirmed that Infinity Ward has no plans to simply remove the 725 from the game. “No,” he said.

The video below shows the 725 killing someone in one shot, from across the map. Cecot said this video shows a “rare” situation where one of the shotgun pellets lands. That being said, Cecot added that there are “changes still to come,” presumably for instances like this.

Modern Warfare launched at the end of October, and it generated $600 million in revenue right away. The game is expected to sell as many as 27 million copies this quarter, while it will bring in even more money when the first Battle Pass launches in December.

In other Call of Duty news, the Call of Duty Mobile game is racing up the charts with more than 140 million downloads and $50 million in revenue over its first month.
