Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare And Warzone Season 4 Starts Today

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is preparing to launch its new season of content, and we’re mere hours away. Last month, a Season 4 teaser trailer dropped some intriguing hints about what to expect–one of the franchise’s most iconic characters even made an appearance. Season 4 was then delayed–it was originally scheduled to kick off on June 3, but we finally have a new date as of today. The surprising part? That date is today.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 Start Date

Season 4 of Call of Duty was scheduled to begin on June 3, but Activision pushed it back in the wake of the homicide of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, a tragedy that has sparked nationwide protests against police brutality and racism. It will now begin on June 10 at 11 PM PT / June 11 at 2 AM ET.

A trailer released in May confirmed the return of the fan-favorite character Captain Price. He was also featured in the campaign mode for the reimagined Modern Warfare, serving a crucial role in the game’s story and leading into a potential sequel. While a new date has not been announced yet, here’s what we do know ahead of its launch.

What We Know About Call Of Duty: Season 4

In a tweet attached to the trailer, Activision teased, “The story is far from over.” That seems to refer to the surprising amount of story content represented in these cutscenes, which show Price and promises a new mission. Naturally, we also get plenty of action with firefights and risky chopper maneuvers.

The teaser suggests Price will be a playable character in Modern Warfare and the standalone battle royale Warzone, similar to how Simon “Ghost” Riley made his debut in Season 2. If that’s the case, Price would be available for those who purchase the premium version of the battle pass, just like Ghost. Gaz from the campaign is also briefly spotted near the end of the teaser, standing next to Price.

As we approach the summer game reveal season–which may be more spread out because of the cancellation of E3 due to coronavirus–rumors are starting to circulate about the next Call of Duty. Those rumors claim it will be Black Ops: Cold War, developed by Treyarch. A reveal is said to be coming soon, but it’s unknown just when it might be.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone Season 4 Delayed Out Of Respect For Protests

Activision has pushed back the launches of two major seasonal updates for the Call of Duty series. Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone and Season 7 of Call of Duty: Mobile have been delayed in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent protests that have taken placed in the United States. In a brief statement on Twitter, the official Call of Duty Twitter account announced that the start of new seasons across these three Call of Duty games has been pushed back.

These seasons, originally planned for June 3, will now debut at a later date; a new start date has not yet been confirmed.

“Right now it’s time for those speaking up for equality, justice, and change to be seen and heard,” the tweet reads. “We stand alongside you.”

Call of Duty publisher Activision is one of several companies that has released a public statement about the Black Lives Matter movement. If you want to take personal, material action, BET has a list of charities worth supporting.

GameSpot’s summer gaming show, Play For All, started on June 1 and will run the weeks to come. The show was built on bringing the gaming community together and leveraging our passion and solidarity to benefit those in need. It feels right that we should extend our fundraising efforts to include those fighting against the systemic injustices faced by black people in America, along with supporting Direct Relief’s COVID-19 efforts aiding front-line medical workers.

We’ll be using our platform to raise money for both Direct Relief and Black Lives Matter. We want to be clear: Black Lives Matter; Black Culture Matters; Black Communities Matter.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Has Great New Maps, And One Is A Throwback To MW3

Developer Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will get a large update introducing new content later this week on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This includes the return of an old franchise map, which is available to play right now. Hardhat, which was last seen in 2011’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has been added to Modern Warfare’s 24/7 multiplayer playlist. It is a close-quarters map made for fast-paced skirmishes, but with enough sightlines for long-range fire as well. This should make it particularly challenging and ensure that teams make use of multiple loadouts. Without doing so, they risk leaving themselves open to ambushes or sniper fire.

[Update: The new update is out now, introducing both this and the new Aisle 9 map to the game, alongside other changes to both it and Warzone. You can read about everything new in the full Call of Duty May 18 update patch notes. The recent patch has also made various balance changes, as well as introduced new elements to the battle royale Warzone–including finally opening the vaults.]

What is old is now new with the return of the Hardhat map.

Of course, Hardhat is not the only addition to Modern Warfare this week. The studio added a new Gunfight map to multiplayer, as well as the “Ghost Pack Contingency” bundle that includes two new weapon blueprints, and more.

Call of Duty: Warzone will also see some changes later this week. This includes implementing a new item to all Warzone game modes, adding more weapons to The Gulag, introducing a new limited-time mode, and more.

In other Call of Duty news, Infinity Ward reintroduced helicopters after temporarily removing them due to a glitch earlier this month. Elsewhere, it has been reported that the world record for the most kills in a single Warzone Quads match has been set, with one team getting 121 kills before the match concluded.
