Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Update Adds CoD4 Maps; Full Patch Notes Listed

Infinity Ward has released the full patch notes for the December 18 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The update is pretty big, adding several new pieces of content and implementing numerous balance changes and bug fixes across PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In terms of what’s new, the update adds three maps to the multiplayer rotation: Shipment, Vacant, and Winter Docks (the latter being a winter-themed variation of the Docks map). Long-time Call of Duty fans will recognize Shipment and Vacant as remakes of the same two maps from 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. With the addition of these new maps, both Vacant and Shipment have been rotated into the 24/7 multiplayer playlist. Cranked mode has also been rotated in, as has Gunfight.

The new update also adds a new Operator to Modern Warfare, Nikto. A former Russian FSB undercover agent, Nikto is an Allegiance Operator. Thanks to the update, you can also now jump into Special Operation Strongbox and classic Special Operations Disinform and Bomb Squad.

The full patch notes for this update are long, too long to cover in any meaningful depth. Instead, the remaining bug fixes and balancing changes are outlined in bullet list form below. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC–if you haven’t tried it, you may want to as the game has set new records as the most-played Call of Duty title this console generation.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Breaks Records, Is Most-Played CoD This Generation

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has reached new heights. Just as new content–including CoD 4 maps–is released for it, Activision announced that the game has reached $1 billion in revenue worldwide, with players collectively spending more than 500 million hours in the game’s multiplayer mode. In total, nearly 300 million matches have been played.

Modern Warfare has now surpassed every other Call of Duty this console generation in terms of hours played, hours per player, and average daily players over its first 50 days.

The current-generation Call of Duty games have included:

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013)
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (2014)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (2015)
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (2016)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered (2016)
  • Call of Duty: WWII (2017)
  • and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018)

Of note, Activision’s sell-through numbers for Modern Warfare include physical units sold at retail and digital copies, with performance accounted for by Activision’s estimates and other data.

Modern Warfare’s development was a massive undertaking. Development was led by Infinity Ward, which created the Modern Warfare sub-brand, with other Activision-owned studios contributing as well, including Beenox, High Moon Studios, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, and Activision Shanghai.

The first big Modern Warfare update kicked off earlier in December with the Season One update which introduced new DLC maps and modes, all of which are free.

Additionally, the new Fortnite-style Battle Pass–which costs $10 USD–is available now. It’s not immediately clear if Activision’s $1 billion sales estimate for Modern Warfare includes revenue from the Battle Pass and Modern Warfare’s other microtransactions. GameSpot has contacted Activision in an attempt to get more details.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Gets New Content This Week

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched its Season One content on PC, PS4, and Xbox One recently, but part of that live game plan includes regular content drops throughout the season as well. That will be the case with this week’s “Season One Refresh,” which will include a new game mode, operator, maps, and Spec Ops missions. Plus you can claim a little bonus for logging in.

The refresh includes the Cranked game mode, a Deathmatch variant that has you racing to get kills. You can also try the new Spec Ops missions Operation Strong Box, Classic Special Ops Disinform, and Classic Special Ops Bomb Squad. The new operator Nikto will be available in a new operator bundle that includes the character along with a watch, weapon blueprints, and customization items. The Docks map will also get a holiday-themed reskin called Over Winter.

Finally, if you log in on December 18 after 10 AM PT, you can get a free gift pack in the “Just For You” section of the store. From December 20 at 10 AM PT to December 23 at 10 AM PT, you can score double weapon XP.

Other content drops are still planned for throughout the rest of the season. This is part of Infinity War’s live game plan for Modern Warfare, having announced before release that it would no longer use map packs that splinter the player base. The seasons do come with Battle Passes that earn you some cosmetic items, but all maps and game-changing additions like new weapons or equipment are free for all players.

“Turn on your phones. Disengage your brains. Live in the moment. Consume.”

EXCERPT FROM A PRINT INTERVIEW, 09-09.

Reporter: What does identity mean to you?

Bosak: All identity is performative. The complication lies in the fact that, as much as you construct your image by what you say, how you dress, and which brands you buy, you’re never truly in control. You’re always subject to a status quo, a set of expectations about how someone who looks like you *must* act.

Reporter: Surely those expectations don’t carry over when we’re talking about art.

Bosak: Art transcends society only when nothing is known about the artist. I don’t want to transcend society. I want to record it.

Reporter: I see. So what do you say to people who claim your work is shallow and narcissistic?

Bosak: I say that if you can’t see yourself in someone else’s reflection you’re not trying hard enough.

Reporter: But, by doing so, aren’t you simply behaving in the way that society expects?

Bosak: (laughs) Aren’t you?

“We define ourselves by symbols, but those symbols can be perverted. Reused. Reworked, reframed, remade. In a word, stolen. Who are you then?”

Top 10 Best-Selling US Games Of November Revealed, As Switch Outsells PS4 And Xbox One Again

The best-selling games and hardware for November 2019 in the United States have been revealed, and there are no surprises. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continues to dominate while the Nintendo Switch remains the best-selling console of the month and the year.

The NPD report for November confirms Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the best-selling game of the month, a position it has held since launch in October. It is 2019’s best-selling title, and also the best-selling game of the trailing 12-month period ending in November.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launched in November, and it finished the month second behind Modern Warfare. After its first month on sale, Fallen Order rocketed up the charts to become the ninth best-selling game of 2019. Its first-month sales are the second-best in Star Wars history, only behind 2015’s Star Wars: Battlefront. Also of note is that Fallen Order represents the best launch-month for any game from Respawn in terms of dollar sales.

Pokemon Sword and Shield also debuted in November, and they finished No. 3 and No. 5 on the best-seller charts. The Double Pack, which contains both games, finished at No. 4. If all versions of the game were combined, Sword and Shield would have actually finished No. 2 during November.

“These titles combine to achieve the highest launch month dollar sales of any Pokemon release in U.S. history, topping the previous launch month high set by Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon,” NPD said.

Digital sales for Nintendo games are not tracked by NPD, so Sword and Shield might have charted higher if this was the case.

Another November release, Hideo Kojima’s timed PlayStation 4-exclusive Death Stranding, finished No. 7 during its launch month. The game launches on PC in 2020.

Also of note for November was that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate became the best-selling fighting game of all time in the United States. It surpassed Super Smash Bros. Brawl to set the new record.

Total spending on video game software in November fell 13 percent to $926 million.

Moving to hardware, the Switch repeated as the month’s best-selling console, and it continues to be the best-selling system of 2019. The PS4 and Xbox One are entering the end of their lifecycles, so it’s no surprise they are slowing down in sales as players look forward to the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett in 2020.

Total spending on hardware in November fell 26 percent to $891 million. With hardware, software, and accessories combined, total spending on video games in the US during November reached $2.3 billion, which is down 19 percent.
